Knowledge gateways
Research Library
Discover educational explainers, research checklists and selected external scientific resources. Formal GFSR publications are tracked separately.
02Publications & Research Records
Each future publication will have a unique institutional number, authorship, abstract, methodology, review status, citation and version history. No GFSR publications are currently listed.
03Evidence Briefs
Short, sourced syntheses of what is known, where uncertainty remains and what this means for research and policy. This publication series is in development.
04Policy Briefs
Evidence-informed options for decision makers, with transparent assumptions and limitations. This publication series is in development.
05Research Reports & Working Papers
Long-form research and working papers will be recorded with methods, sources, review status and corrections. The series is in development.
06Toolkits & Guidebooks
Research planning guides and bilingual web checklists for methods, evidence appraisal, data management, collaboration and responsible AI.
07Research Insights
Eight educational research explainers on scientific reliability, interpretation, validation, human factors, digital evidence and research governance.
08Global Forensic Science Resources
Selected external sources for research discovery. Inclusion is for reference and does not imply partnership, endorsement or affiliation.
09Forensic Science Glossary
Search a growing bilingual collection of fundamental research terms with plain-language explanations and technical context.
10Quick Tools Library
Eight bilingual research planning and appraisal checklists. Use them online or print a working copy.

RESEARCH & PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
How to read forensic evidence
A method can be useful while still having limits. Ask what was measured, under which conditions the method was validated, what competing explanations exist and how uncertainty is conveyed.
Choose a route
Use the research library for educational explainers, web tools and selected sources; the publication system for formal GFSR records; the glossary for terminology; and the standards directory for externally issued documents.
Choose the resource by your task
For a topic introduction, start with an educational insight and its source links. For planning, use a checklist. For literature discovery, search the external directories. Formal GFSR research publications have a separate release process, so a web explainer should not be cited as if it were a peer-reviewed study.
Read across the research lifecycle
The knowledge system connects questions, sources, appraisal, validation, analysis and communication. Following that sequence helps prevent a common error: selecting a tool first and then changing the question to fit it. Use the methods resources to decide what kind of study can answer your question.
- Question → methods and protocol
- Sources → search and appraisal
- Analysis → uncertainty and interpretation
- Communication → review and responsible sharing
Assess knowledge before using it
Check authorship or issuing body, date, version, review status and the conditions covered. Distinguish a source’s conclusion from GFSR’s educational explanation. When a resource does not cover your discipline, population or setting, identify the transferability gap rather than assuming it applies.
